Thursday 4th June. Good Morning everyone. I hope that you are all well and keeping busy. Below are some arithmetic assessments; they are a good challenge so try and have a go if you can. This is a link to some really nice learning about teamwork. With all the challenges that you are facing at the moment I thought it was good to remember that we are all part of a fabulous year five team.

The next chapter of Malamander  will go on a little bit later and tomorrow I will also put on another school tour  video of how the school is looking in preparation of year six coming back. Monday 1st June - Good morning year 5. How are you all doing? I hope you had a great half term. Today I'm feeling green as it has been lovely to enjoy all this sunshine over half term. I have managed to see my mum and my sister (in a park) which has been lovely. Also we got a paddling pool in our garden so I have been able to stay cool. It would be brilliant to able to see you all and share this news in person. What have you been up to? I would love to share your news. Laura.

This week the diagnostic quiz is about adding and subtracting fractions to follow on from the previous White Rose lessons. This week the White Rose lessons are online at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/ but you will need to download the activity sheets from here. They are saved below with the answers. Remember the lessons also link with the BBC bitesize website. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zh9brj6

The English work is around a book called 'Harry Miller’s Run' by David Almond and Salvatore Rubbino. David Almond is the author of another great book - Skellig.

In the next chapters of 'Malamander' and we're starting to learn a bit more about Violet's dad and his relationship with the Eerie book dispensary

Don't forget to check out any pictures of things you have all been up to in our gallery further down the page.

Please get in touch to share your work, ask any questions. or just say hi.

Take care, we're missing you all. Dom and Laura.

Have a look at this question from last week's Diagnostic Quiz:

The answer is D (2/3) because there are 6 sections in total and 4 shaded. This would make the numerator 4 and the denominator 6  (4/6). Both 4 and 6 are divisible by 2 so their equivalent fraction is 2/3.

Have a lovely half term. See you back here on the 1st June.

Good Morning! What a lovely week of sunny weather we are having. Here are the arithmetic papers for the week. We also thought it would be nice if you made your own arithmetic quizzes. If you email them in we can then add them to the class page for everyone to have a go at. We have also put together a sheet for half term. It has a geography task on and also some links to different museums and galleries.

Have a fun and safe half term. Take care, Dom and Laura.

18th May - Good morning year five. Today I'm feeling green as the weather has stayed quite nice and I have been enjoying time walking and being in the garden. How about you? I didn't manage to make a cake for the bake off as I didn't manage to get my partner to get all the ingredients in time. I must try harder. Your space entries were fantastic and really great to look at. They made me hungry!

The winner was chosen again by an impartial judge (my partner's son) and he choose LOLITA! Well done. All the great entries can be seen further down the page.

This week the diagnostic quiz is about equivalent fractions and converting between mixed and improper fractions to follow on from last week's White Rose lessons.

The English work is around 'Midnight Fox' by Betsy Byars. I love her books 'Cracker Jackson' and 'The not just anybody family'.

It's all heating up in the next chapters of 'Malamander' and we're starting to learn a bit more about Violet's family (especially her dad).

Please get in touch to share your work, ask any questions. or just say hi.

Take care, we're missing you all. Dom and Laura.

Have a look at this question from last week's Diagnostic Quiz:

The answer is A, 7, because the top line (ABC) represents the answer to 30 x 9 which equals 270. DE represents 7 x 9, which equals 63 making the answer to 37 x 9 = 333.

Thursday 14th May. Hi everyone! We are just putting on the arithmetic today as there are quite a few tasks on for this week. The DooWop to Hip Hop sheet 2 has 5 activities on but remember you don't need to do them all. Work at your own pace and do what works for you. It continues to be lovely to hear from you all and we really like seeing what you have been up to. Have a great day.

11th May - Good morning year 5. Today I'm feeling a bit blue as it was my mum's birthday and I wasn't able to see her. However we did do a family zoom which was nice. How have you been keeping up with loved ones?

This week the diagnostic quiz is about multiplying 4 digit numbers to follow on from last week's White Rose lessons.

The English work is around the 'Suffragettes' by David Roberts. This group of women were highly important to British History. It was another historical day last Friday. The 75th anniversary of VE day. Did you do anything to celebrate?

The next chapter of Malamander is all about Beachcombers. What's the strangest thing you've ever found on the beach?

There is also another sheet of activities around our topic 'DooWop to Hip Hop'. We are now starting to look at the 1970s too.

You can scroll down to see the week four gallery for all the lovely activities you send in. Remember it is hard being at home and learning so don't feel any pressure to do more than you are able to or send anything in if you don't want too. This is a strange time and we all need to do what works for us.

Take care, we're missing you all. Dom and Laura.

The answer is A because 0.84 + 1 = 1.84. Each indent on the scale represents a jump of 0.02.

Good Morning! Here are some arithmetic papers for you to have a go at. There is also an activity log to complete. Please visit this link for some really good grammar revision. Be ready for a quiz next week! Have a lovely weekend.  Dom and Laura

Monday 4th May - HAPPY STAR WARS DAY! Today I'm felling green as not much has changed for me since last week. It is still great to see your lovely work coming in. I have kept to my resolution for last week and have either used my exercise bike or gone on a walk every day. After seeing all the great Bake Off entries I am determined to make a cake over the next couple of weeks. I am going to try one of my favourites - a Victoria Sponge. All of your Bake Off entries were amazing and the winner was chosen by an impartial judge. Well Done ALICE! All of the entries can be seen in the Bake Off gallery further down the page.

This week the diagnostic quiz is about decimals to follow on from last week's White Rose lesson. The White Rose lessons this week are all about multiplying two-digit numbers. The lessons on BBC Bitesize are also linked to this topic. Both can be found from these links:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zhgppg8/year-5-and-p6-lessons/1

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/

This weeks English activities can be found below and are based around a book called 'Rooftoppers' by Katherine Rundell.

Remember to scroll down to hear the next chapter of Malamander. What do you think will happen next? Do you think Violet and Herbie will solve the mystery?

Our next bake of challenge will be to create something inspired by your learning about space. Entries in by 18th May please.

Check the week three gallery for all your great learning.

Have a look at this question from last week's diagnostic quiz.

Lots of you answered B for this question. However the answer is D because 100% means the whole thing and having 100 ones or 100 of something would be more than one whole.

Monday 20th April - Good morning year 5, I'm feeling very green this week as in the holidays I had my twenty week scan and saw my baby all growing well. I am now over halfway through my pregnancy and really enjoying it. We are now starting to think of name ideas (any suggestions welcome) and we don't know if it will be a boy or a girl. I am however feeling a bit in the blue zone as it would be nice to see all your lovely faces and hear your holiday news in person. Please update us by email.

This week you have five English lessons and your diagnostic questions are about multiplication and division. There are five topic lesson about our new learning journey which can be done over the next couple of weeks. All the sheets you need are below.

It's also important in this time to keep active. Before Easter we had a great sporting challenge from Dom and Ebie; filmed by Morgan. Now we have another one from our very own Jimmy...

Last term we were reading a book called Malamander. So far we have been taken to Eerie-on-Sea and the Grand Nautilus Hotel. We have been introduced to Herbie Lemon (who runs the hotel's lost and found), Mr Mollusc (hotel manager), Lady Kraken (hotel owner) and Violet Parma (a mysterious orphan). They discover that a postcard Violet has matched the Eerie Book Dispensary and they travel there to try and find out her history. At the dispensary the book chooses you and this is where we left off, with Violet about to pay the Mermonkey.

We will take turns reading a chapter every Monday and Thursday. Each chapter will be two videos. Keep checking this section of the page for the next chapter. The previous chapters will be deleted as we go, newest chapter at the bottom.
