Middle Street Curriculum

At Middle Street Primary School we are passionate about providing a curriculum that meets the needs of learners in the 21st Century. Our approach to curriculum planning is bespoke and flexible so that it can be adapted to meet the needs of learners over time.

As a maintained primary school we start by ensuring that we meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.


Our Mastery approach to English is delivered through the programmes ‘Pathways to Read and ‘Pathways to Write.’


Our Mastery approach to Maths is currently organised using the 'Curriculum Prioritisation in Primary Maths' from the National College for Excellence in the Teaching of Maths (NCETM).

Personal, Social and Health Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education

Our curriculum map is based on the DfE statutory guidance for Primary Relationships and Health Education and the PSHE Association Programme of Study. This is a model curriculum developed by Brighton and Hove PSHE Team.

Religious Education

Our curriculum is developed in line with Brighton and Hove 'Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education'.

All other subjects

Our curriculum plans are developed from the Chris Quigley 'Essentials Curriculum'.
