Welcome to Year 6's class page 2018!

Welcome to Year 6's class page 2018!

Our new learning journey is 'Coastal Invasions'. We all had a lovely afternoon with Year 5 trying out different activities from Saxon times. The children made bookmarks which were decorated using runes, solved riddles and then had a go at writing their own - some of these were very tricky to solve! The children also tried carving decorations into soap, and tie dyed fabric using red and brown onion skins. It was a fantastic afternoon and we'd like to thank all of the adults who came along to help us start off our learning.

As last year, each child will choose five spellings on a Friday to learn over the weekend.  They are due back in school by Wednesday morning. There will also be times table sheets to practise too. It's really important the children know their times tables and can recall them quickly. From this term we will also be sending home further English and Maths homework for the children to do. They can always bring it in and talk to us if they are finding it tricky.

Our PE days this term are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your children have a PE kit in school for these days. This term we are doing fitness and High 5 netball.

Should you have any concerns or wish to talk to us about your child’s progress, please feel free to speak to Cherry (Wed-Fri) or Laura (Mon-Wed). One of us will always be in the playground at the end of the day. We also welcome our student teacher Zoe, who will be working alongside us throughout the week.

Our Class Blog 2018!

The children have worked really hard this week and enjoyed the activities in STEM week. We will use the first two days back after Easter to carry out some interesting Science investigations that we didn't quite get time to do this week!

We did get time to ask Bike It Ben about 'the engine' on his bike and were lucky enough to have a delicious smoothie made by bike power! STEM week finished for us with a great trip to the Apple Store, where we enjoyed coding a Sphero and moving it around the store. Have a look at the pictures below.

Both Year 5 and 6 had an interesting time at Lewes Castle on Tuesday, handling artefacts and looking around the Norman castle. There are photos below.

In Maths this week, we looked at how algebra is used and began to understand how to substitute letters for numbers!

We rounded off the week with a Cabaret Assembly, which was brilliant - we are a talented bunch!

??Question of the week??

What is the engine that powers Bike It Ben's bike?

Year Six had a lovely time at Lewes Castle learning about Anglo - Saxons. They handled artefacts, explored the castle and even wore some typical Anglo - Saxon clothing.
