Welcome to Year 6's class page 2018!

Welcome to Year 6's class page 2018!

Our new learning journey is 'Coastal Invasions'. We all had a lovely afternoon with Year 5 trying out different activities from Saxon times. The children made bookmarks which were decorated using runes, solved riddles and then had a go at writing their own - some of these were very tricky to solve! The children also tried carving decorations into soap, and tie dyed fabric using red and brown onion skins. It was a fantastic afternoon and we'd like to thank all of the adults who came along to help us start off our learning.

As last year, each child will choose five spellings on a Friday to learn over the weekend.  They are due back in school by Wednesday morning. There will also be times table sheets to practise too. It's really important the children know their times tables and can recall them quickly. From this term we will also be sending home further English and Maths homework for the children to do. They can always bring it in and talk to us if they are finding it tricky.

Our PE days this term are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your children have a PE kit in school for these days. This term we are doing fitness and High 5 netball.

Should you have any concerns or wish to talk to us about your child’s progress, please feel free to speak to Cherry (Wed-Fri) or Laura (Mon-Wed). One of us will always be in the playground at the end of the day. We also welcome our student teacher Zoe, who will be working alongside us throughout the week.

Our Class Blog 2018!

This week we started reading wonder by R.J Palacio, it's about a boy with a facial disfigurement and he has to start a new school for the first time.

In maths we learnt how to convert fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions.

In literacy we read The Lady of Shallot, it's a very interesting poem set in medieval times, it's about a lady who is stuck in a tower and has been cursed to never look out the window!
